Song Road CD makes top 10 lists, touring, singing camp in Mexico

January 1, 2014

Hello, Folks.

As we say goodbye to 2013 I want to reach out to friends and fans and wish you a very fine 2014. May this next year bring peace and joy to all.

2013 was a very busy year with lots of touring across this amazing country in support of Song Road, my new release. I am delighted to tell you that it made the top ten pick for 2013 by three industry people: journalist and musician Mike Sadava in Victoria, Jim Marino, host of several shows at CFMU in Hamilton, Julie Miller, concert presenter and host of Ouvrez les Frontieres, CFLX, Sherbrooke, Quebec. Thank you, thank you. I am immensely proud of this CD (and the great production job by Jaron Freeman-Fox) and am so happy to have the recording honoured in this way. Each year the Canadian folk/roots music quarterly Penguin Eggs recruits a number of industry people to submit their top picks for the year. My buddy Hary Kern took this photo a couple years ago on our way to Dawson City. We got to hang out again on my tour to The Yukon in November. Much love to you Harry. Check out his work at www.harrykern.com. To my Yukon friends, I’ll be back next year, can’t wait!

I am sticking around home till after Music PEI Week at the end of January. Song Road is nominated in a couple of categories. Then it’s off to Ontario for my annual ‘Raise the Dead of Winter’ tour with the one and only October Browne. We have shows in Belleville (Feb 7), London (Feb 8), Kitchener (Feb 9), Toronto (Feb 14), Sudbury (Feb 15), and McKellar (Feb 16). Check out reservation info in the Shows section. The lovely Joan Weed will also be hosting a vocal workshop with me on Tuesday evening Feb 11th at her home in The Beaches.

I’ll be back in Ontario to teach and perform at The Haliburton Folk Camp Feb 28 – March 3rd, www.winterfolkcamp.com then it’s off to Mexico for a couple weeks on the beach. Yoga teacher Lynda Shadbolt is joining me for a yoga/singing camp March 10 -14. Find details at www.haliburtonyoga.com. You want to come, you know you do!!! Get in touch soon. Imagine waking up to this view. We will begin the day with an hour of yoga on the beach followed by two hours of singing – vocal technique and an introduction to The Yoga of Sound, using your voice as a healing modality. The rest of the day is yours to swim, snorkel, read, explore Mayan ruins, drink margueritas and enjoy the lovely little town of Puerto Morelos, an oasis of tranquility between Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

I want to thank all the kind people who supported my career in 2013, the wonderful musicians, presenters, house concert hosts and most especailly all of you that came out to shows and bought CDs. Thank you for supporting live music in your community and making it possible for us musicians to continue our musical adventures. We are so grateful.
